Ailing veteran actor, Kayode
Odumosu aka Pa Kasumu's
state of health has deteriorated.
Encomium magazine reports
that he now has a high level of
hypertension and has also
developed an advanced
cerebrovascular disease, a
medical condition that is related
to brain dysfunction which
affects the blood vessels that
transports blood to the brain.
This new development has
impaired his memory as well as
gradually eroding his speech.
He is also gradually losing the
vision in his left eye.
Niece to the veteran actor and
coordinator of the Save Pa
Kasumu Group, Mrs Idowu
Olajide, spoke on the recent
development and Governor
Fashola's promise. She said:
"As it is now, the situation
is very disturbing. He has
lost his voice but we
believe with God, all things
are possible. Governor
Fashola directed him to
First Cardiologist Hospital
Ikoyi and the result from
the test has been sent to
him. We really appreciate
the governor's step, it's in
the right direction. But he
hasn't said he would give
Pa Kasumu N12million as
been peddled and we have
not received any money
from him. So, we are still
appealing to all the good-
hearted Nigerians to come
to the aid of Pa Kasumu
because weather or not he
is flown abroad, the
ailment needs serious
maintenance which will
cost a lot of money".

The truth about Govt's position on ASUU strike-Finance Ministry
This is a press statement from
the Federal Ministry of Finance
about the ongoing ASUU strike.
It's been four long months
(Quite shameful I must add)
with no apparent resolution to
the conflict in sight...and some
people are blaming the Minister
of finance Dr Okonjo Iweala for
what's going on.
Some people in ASUU have been
distributing flyers with abusive
messages against Dr Okonjo-
Iweala and now the ministry is
issuing a statement about it,
saying the minister is not the
problem. I'd rather read about
when ASUU is calling off this
strike to be honest. Find the
press statement below
Contrary to some recent
media reports, the Federal
government has not
adopted a take-it-or-leave-
it approach in its
negotiations with ASUU.
Rather, the approach is
focused on positive
engagement and achieving
sustainable solutions to the
challenges facing higher
education in the country.
That is why President
Goodluck Jonathan recently
appealed to ASUU to
respond to government’s
positive steps by calling off
its strike in the interest of
suffering students and
parents.
Despite this, for several days
now, some elements in ASUU
have been distributing
pamphlets and flyers with
abusive and inflammatory
messages against the
Coordinating Minister for the
Economy and Minister of
Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-
Iweala in mosques and other
places. This is taking academic
unionism to a new low and
infusing it with unnecessary
politics. I am sure majority of
ASUU members are not in
support of this.
These messages are directed at
using falsehood to demonize
the Minister as callous and
unsympathetic to the plight of
students and parents. The
major lie being peddled in the
pamphlets and flyers is that Dr
Okonjo-Iweala has insisted on a
“take-it-or-leave-it approach” in
the negotiations with ASUU.
Nothing could be further from
the truth.
Dr Okonjo-Iweala is the
daughter of two retired
professors and her father is
presently a member of ASUU’s
Board of Trustees and has been
one for a long time. She speaks
with her father everyday on the
issue so how can be insensitive
to issues concerning the sad
state of tertiary education in
the country? She understands
and sympathizes with the plight
of both students and lecturers.
She wants our children back in
school as soon as possible.
Remember she is a mother and
two of her young relatives are
sitting at home due to the
strike.
This is why government is
working hard, under the
leadership of the President, to
seek practical and sustainable
solutions to the challenges
facing higher education in
Nigeria. The President has
made available N100 billion a
year in the first instance to
repair hostels, laboratories and
classrooms and other facilities.
An offer has also been made to
ASUU of N30 billion towards
their earned allowances. In fact,
negotiations have even gone
further than this. This is the
first time, in years of
negotiating with government,
that significant sums of money
have been put on the table for
ASUU and universities on this
particular set of issues. The
Coordinating Minister is fully
part of this.
Against this background, ASUU
elements who want the strike
to continue should have a heart
and rethink their current take-
it-or-leave-it approach to
negotiation. Government has
demonstrated its commitment
to improving the university
system. And it is even ready to
do much more going forward.
ASUU should listen to the voice
of reason and the yearnings of
Nigerians on this issue.

Welcome to Otom R. Ayeni's Blog: Tragic! Three of Yinka Ayefele's band boys disappear in the US
It's quite unfortunate that Three of Yinka Ayefele's
band boys disappear in the US. The
Gospel music legend, Yinka Ayefele left Nigeria
on September 2nd with a 14-man band for a six-week
musical tour of the US, which took them to New York,
Washington, Houston, Atlanta,
Baltimore, Maryland and Dallas.
He returned to Nigeria this week with three band members missing. The three
missing men according to a
petition filed by Ayefele are:
1. The lead vocalist of

Band, Solomon Motimoke
popularly known as ‘Yatty’
who dumped the band

October.

Welcome to Otom R. Ayeni's Blog: We will thrill Nigerians at Glo Laffta Fest - American comedians
Popular American comedians,
Tony Roberts and Deeray
Davies, have promised Glo
subscribers who will attend
today’s Glo Laffta Fest show an
exciting evening of fun and
laughter.
The comedians who arrived in
Lagos on Thursday evening for
the biggest comedy show
tagged Invasion L.O.L. said they
would give the audience a
different kind of comedy from
what they were used to.
Continue...
Asked by reporters what
Nigerians should expect from
him, Roberts who had a big
smile plastered on his face
declared, “Non-stop comedy.
I'm very unpredictable, so I
don’t know what I'm going to
say. If you're in front of me, I
might talk about you. I don't
want to offend anybody, but
you never know. You've got the
best right here with you!”
Roberts continued, “Every
country we go to, we do our
research. We try to read the
mindset of the people, because
what's funny to people back in
the United States might not
appeal to the audience here, so
we just have to get ready, and
make sure we operate on the
same wavelength as the people
here.”
On his part, Davies said, "I just
want to have a good time and
bring my own brand of comedy
to a whole new place. Many
may have watched me on TV,
but they’ve never seen me
perform live. It's going to be
spectacular. It's going to be a
different vibe coming from me
on that stage. I just want to
create a stress-free
environment and make the
audience have a good time.”
Anxious to work with some of
Nigeria’s biggest comedy
talents, Davies stated, “I want to
see more so I can take in the
culture, and learn as much
about their comedy as I
possibly can. I don’t want this
to be my last trip; I want
Nigerians to be so used to me
that they’ll keep having me over,
and not just for big events
alone.
The duo will be performing
with some of Nigeria’s biggest
stars including Alli Baba,
Basketmouth, Okey Bakassi,
Julius Agwu and Gordons.
On their expectations on
working with their Nigerian
counterparts, Roberts said,
“Actually, it's weird because
they're more used to this
environment than we are. They
know the local stuff, so they can
say things that we don't know
about. They have the upper
hand on us, but all the same,
we're super funny, and you're
going to find out! We're going
to get along with them and
work as a team.”
The show which is packaged by
national operator, Globacom, is
scheduled for 6.00 p.m.,
Saturday, October 19th, at Eko
Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.
